sunrise

got up early yesterday morning to head out for a sunrise surf. been doing these for a while now so we've got to see some nice mornings. this however, ranks as one of the best to date. twlight was all purples, pinks and oranges. little grays left over but not much. as i walked down to the beach, i noticed i could see the next island over to the southeast "molokai" pretty clearly. which most mornings is hard to see. then i noticed several other land masses. thought wow, that's cool. like a panoramic shot between the green blue hued ocean and a layer of pastel colored clouds. there emerged in the middle was 4 distant islands: molokai, lanai, maui and the big island. that's almost 75+ miles of clear viseabilty. guess it just happend to be the right mix of clear low skies, soft light, morning sun and calm ocean. then for the next 10 minutes, we surfed in the morning light waiting for the sun to burst over maui. a mental snapshot to last for a lifetime. the shape of our home atop this ancient volcano mtn chain. the history, events and its people.
