Hartmann Residence, CT

front side & then back side of 1500sq ft house.

damn attractive little place. not a very big lot either. (looks like 240'x40' lot, = 9400sq ft, = less than 1/4th of an acre) nice looking glass windows to give some great light, & the use of vertical space is inviting to see. the structure is a wood frame w/structural steel moment frame.

the thing that throws me is this quote from the architect: "Our first big constraint was the measurements of this shotgun lot, explained Roger Ferris, AIA of Roger Ferris + Partners, We decided the design would have to be open in the front, open in the back, but private on the sides since neighboring residences would be within 15 feet of the house.”

don't get me wrong, i do like the dwelling. but in a way it's a shame to put so much into a home & you can literally toss some borrowed sugar right back into the neighbors hands through the kitchen window. i'm under the assumption today's home owners have many lists of things they can do with & without. i bet its tough to make this list.
