welcoming the summer solstice

summer is here. damn we love the end of june...
check out our summer solstice pics from a party we had monday night. we decided that in honor of our beautiful mother earth, sun & moon that having a party to celebrate them would be a fine thing to do. especially on the eve of the longest sunshine day of the year.
we only sent out only 10 emails & i guess word just traveled from there. it ended up being lots of people, great pupu's (app's), BBQ'ing, beers, tea & the list goes on. the entertainment was an unexpeceted treat with people playing guitar (thanks to kev for bringing the music) singing, dancing, kids playing & even some folds decided to test their gymnastic skills on the beach.

as the sunshine gave way to the full moon it just so happened that some of our friends brought their fire dancing gear. we were treated to a couple stoked shows under a glowing moonlight.

we thought the night had hit its highlight at that point. yet once again we were wrong. turns out in the crowd of old & new friends was a samuari watermelon act. nothing better to end the day then a great chopping w/ some hoots & hollers from a crowd as the would be samuri slices the hell out of a few watermelons.
thanks to all that swung by to have a laugh & visit. it was much appreciated and we plan on having a real ol'fashion summer bbq real soon.
just some basic tid bits about the summer solstice:
So in general, the northern hemisphere is getting more direct sunlight, which heats the Earth most efficiently, than the southern hemisphere. This is summer for people in the northern hemisphere. During the summer, the Sun is also above the horizon longer than it is during the winter. The summer solstice is the longest day of the year.
