sand bagged surf report
got some geeks in town this week for a game workshop. so we kicked it tourist style last night in waikiki. twaz drinking some mai tai's on the beach while watching some chest high glassy rollers come through the sunsets rays. the surf last night at queens looked super fun. even had some smaller little barrels going left.
so this morning we got up cracko dawn. headed out for a session @ cliffs. suppose to be waist high according to the surf report. anyhow...it looked a bit wonkie out with outside sets coming in couple feet overhead. wild & warbly drops with the waves breaking in multiple sections. outside sets were mackers @ about 8ft+ faces with shifty directionly flow. no channel to speak of with lots of close out sets mowing people on the inside. got my fair share of poundings today as well as getting caught on the inside & taking some on the head. ended up catching one super fun late drop overhead left. pig dogged the rails & dropped the shoulder into the wall. felt good to finally get some decent do or don't practice.
soul sista was charging some over head munchers as well. then she spent most of the session trapped on the inside with white wash bombs going off all around her.
i bet threes, paradise, pops, kewa's, canoes & queens are cranking today. thinking about a sunset session tonight & a dawn patrol over at three's in the morning.
damn i love this stuff.
board report: the new stick is bad ass. spooky fast for a long board.

son ofa mOTH*R@#^#@()(@&

rough spring. broke my favorite stick, waves have been junkola, someone stole my moped out of my front yard, wife wrecked the car & work is stressful beyond my mental world. if i was still on the big island i bet i could write a country song for this. well maybe south dakota? local people on the big island are a little more realistic about life. ;-) plus their cowboy aloha shirts are much much cooler then anything the midwest has to offer.
anyhow...this calls for one thing & one thing only. i need to go to north shore for the swell this weekend. 3-5 local scale peaking out saturday @ double over head+. i'm going for one thing & one thing only... to get my ass kicked by stacked up monsters, search for a lucky barrel & if i'm lucky live another day to tell ya about it.
(yeah yeah i know i know...life could be worse. but hey...leave me to wallow in my own little world of self pitty. (;-P) i will roll like a hog in the mud then lay in the sun & let it cake like a fine fine dry crust.rarrrr....oops i mean oink oink)

something to make you laugh...
i had a really good laugh the other day & thought i'd share it with all you "soul surfa" readers out there. single fin & i got back from the big island, got in our road trip around the island, anxious to get back to our home, in search of sun. alas, the sun is finally out!! and so was the moon...that very day :)
i was sitting behind single fin, on my board, just chillin', getting ready to meditate on my buddha board, before i jump into the ocean. single fin's squatting down, doing some sort of stretch, or maybe it's just a prayer to the ocean. and what do i see down the middle of his lower backside(if you know what i mean)? white flesh...poor baby's got a rip right down the back of his shorts. i was laughing so hard, i couldn't stop. i didn't want to embarass him in front of the waikiki tourists, and had to whisper it to him.
he had this sheepish smile, and then paddled off into the ocean, leaving me behind, laughing hysterically. every wave that he proceeded to catch, made his shorts rip a little more & more. and of course, we all know that can really rip it up on the waves :)
i thought it was pretty cool to be able to surf so freely, out in the big wide ocean. i've always wanted to surf naked. i don't think he was in agreement.
thanks for the full moon, single fin! sorry, no pics this time around to show. if you know his grandma in ny, he has the same exact butt ;)

t-minus 1 more day

the surfing has suuuuucccccked on the south side. first off we get the floods, sewage and now we have cranking winds. mother nature is out in force this spring. change is here & in hawaii either you roll with the punches or you go back to the mainland.
anyhow...big presentation this morning for the "bang bang" we've been working on for the past 2 months. (6-7 days a week @ 60+hours on the avg) it's been mentally draining & we're starting to get seriously fruity. after wednesday i'm outta here. me go bye bye.
all i know is i'm heading to the big island, got a rag top jeep waiting, nothing but some serious sunsets & a long long weekend of just getting lost day trippin with the wife. she looks about as fried as i am....so this is a much needed voyage.

respect
i never knew him & at this point it doesn't matter.
after reading about his suffering i have no idea what to say.

"I feel numb," said his mother. "You can cry and cry and cry and cry and you still feel the same. You don't feel any relief."

4.5 days & counting...
tick tick tick...like a stick of dyno my head is cranking.
burried under timelines, doc's & nerds asking me way to many questions. one eye on the surf report the other holding steady at the wheel of the day. it's about time & passion i suppose.
going surfing today up in the north shore. need 2. even though the surf has been really _ucked up with the most recent flooding. the north is the safest call at this point. even then i'll be out surfing in the horse pucky. i suppose i like to think of it as character building. ummm or atleast thats me trying to tell my gutt feeling to shut up & surf.
check this out...
you might have thought that i was complaining earlier in the this blog about how certain types of honolulu people handle decisions. read this & then tell me what you think. in honolulu the cash cow of tourism is all the city truly cares about. it's the truth & it's a love hate realtionship with the locals.

"TOXIC NIGHTMARE ON THE SOUTH SHORE
Giant sewage spill fouls Ala Moana and surrounding spots; surfer dies
The big news amongst surfers and environmentalists on Oahu is the recent catastrophic raw sewage spill emanating from the Ala Wai Canal. The canal, which feeds smack dab into the lineup at Bowls, is literally defecating into the ocean. Over 50 million gallons of the putrid slosh is contaminating beaches and surf spots between Sand Island and Diamond Head, putting a skidding halt to all ocean activities except boating for weeks.
Some swimmers and surfers have chanced infection and ventured into the water. Reports are many are now suffering from gastrointestinal infections.
UPDATE: Oliver Johnson, the surfer who was exposed to the water, died on April 6th. It turns out that he was assaulted sometime after leaving Harbor Pub and either fell or was pushed into the water. HPD Homicide detectives have opened up a murder investigation now that Johnson has passed away. His immediate family from Florida are here and will likely take what's left of him back home for burial. All here send our condolences, and are sure we'll hear from them or their lawyers soon.
COVER UP?: A Waikiki surfer revealed yesterday that she was infected by the sewage spill after suffering a reef cut while surfing one day before warning signs went up. Lisa Kennedy remains hospitalized in Honolulu. Doctors have diagnosed her with three bacteria strains that they link directly with fecal compounds, so there is no doubt in this case. Here's the scary part; Kennedy claims that she was "discouraged" by hospital officials from speaking to the media about her illness. She did anyway, and went public with KHON2 (Fox affiliate). If there is indeed an conspiracy involving the City and HTA, there could be others who are sick, but haven't come forward. I'll keep you posted on the situation.
GOING NATIONAL: The EPA is calling this event the worst sewage spill in the nation's history(!), State and Federal officials are claiming that the City (Mayor Mufi Hanneman) neither sought nor was granted authorization for the dumping, and tourist advocate groups are threatening legal actions against all parties involved. It was revealed by an anonymous internal source that the city was advised 2 years ago that this particular 42 inch main would burst if it was not replaced soon.
The blame and counterblame has commenced. "
this is a sad sad period of time in my opinion.

goin gorilla for along weekend

yup, it's time. i'm broken again...to much work & not enough play. for the past multiple weeks i've been in the trenches up at the frontline slinging mud with the geeks. i've realized that i've been in this heads down mode for a bit to long & social interactions are becoming weird for me.
soul sista & i are taking some much needed R&R around the middle of the month. both of us pluggin along our little bumpy paths & realizing that it's time to GTF outta here. shake this fever & take off to the big island for some exploration.
i'll be counting down the days.
(8 more left until we go alohas)

discharge

spent the morning cruz'n the valley on the single speed in search of the nytimes & some java to accompany the trip. thought is might be good to conserve some energy considering friday night still has a laggy feel in my body.

speaking of which it was nice to end the 41 days of straight rain with a good ol'fashion discharge of energy. with that said we hit china town for a long night of chinese food, irish rock'n roll, talking story, way to much dancing, enough drinking to kill off a small horse & just plain good displays of raising hell.

got a little hooked on the street art. excited to find more & more works from the "obey" artist & activist cause. these shots are just random posters smacked outside of a coupla clubs. yet if you hunt around the city you'll find his massive works splattered in truly effective locations. also i like that fact the obey campaign is upping the levels of today's street art. sending true a true message to the youth & the western sleep induced mainstream. i mean if your going to deface public property try to put forth some artisitc effort. rather then tagging a wall cuz you can afford a 4 dollar can of spray paint. sorry i'm just a beleiver that if your going to do something...do it well.
all said & done we met up with some friends & continued to throw down about 3hours of dancing. which was a drastic switch from the time spent @ murphy's irish bar watching some killer bag pipe irish rock. first time i've seen a bag pipe guy bring down the house & end end a session with a david lee roth leg kick in the air. :-)
